Jackie Paaso Here Hold My Kid Ski Mom Movie

In this episode we talk with Jackie Paaso, originally a mogul skier, then a big mountain freeride skier, ski mom, co-founder of SAFE AS clinics and now a movie star.  Jackie joins us from her home in Sweden and tells us about her ski journey.

Jackie learned to ski in New England at the mountains outside of Boston, and then at Sunday River (Maine).  Jackie’s family started as weekend warriors, commuting up to the mountains from the Boston area and eventually moved up to Maine. 

Jackie’s walks us through how freeride skiing competitions work, we learned that the judging is definitely more of an art than a science.  The more challenging sections of the venue (steeper, bigger cliffs) will score higher and a lot of it is how the skier handles the terrain.  The judges are viewing from the bottom of the venue (with binoculars) and the skiers need to pick their line with that in mind.

We were so excited to hear about Jackie’s new movie (Here Hold My Kid) that she made with her friend Elyse Saugstad, also a freeride ski mom.  Jackie tells us about what inspired them to create this movie and how they made it happen.  When we spoke to Jackie the movie was not yet released, but now you can watch it here on Redbull TV!  Jackie and Elyse had their own children (ages 1 & 2) in the movie. 

Jackie is also a founder of SAFE AS clinics, which started as a women focused avalanche safety program.  SAFE AS was started after Jackie’s friend Elyse was caught in an avalanche at Steve’s Pass and was the only survivor.
